What money can’t do when it comes to events
Do you agree with me that expensive doesn’t necessarily mean good? And good per se doesn’t necessarily mean suitable?
(If your answer is yes, you are good, save these five minutes) and check more articles here that may interest you, or keep reading if you want to know how we apply this principle on event planning.
And if your answer is no, let’s talk…
Generally, I agree with you that money is a very powerful resource and tool that allows you to buy and hire other resources to help you meet your objectives.
Let’s start with why do you want to make an event? Is it to show off, or to deliver some very specific messages that could be a marketing message, policy update, or educational message. If your answer is to show off then I would highly advise you to “NOT DO IT”, you won’t be able to show off enough and the ROI is very low if not minus. And there will always be bigger, fancier events in the past or the future and trust me it’s not a very easy arena to compete in.
FYI, the big, smart, successful companies do not do that, Check out the previous article about Apple’s April 2021 conference.
But if you want to serve a purpose or deliver a message; Here are three things you should focus on to create a great event with efficient budget and usage of your available resources.
1.Venue
Use your own venue, like your office, rooftop, or garage. And if you don’t have any of those, then look into your key provider/suppliers, think about it for 10 minutes, find a strong value that you can offer to them, put it in a nice and friendly email, then follow it up with a quick call. Didn’t work with the first one, do not give up, go for the next with some tweak(s). I’m kind of sure you will get the venue secured on the same day, if it doesn’t work contact us and we will help you to do so and for no charge.
2. Event Theme is..
such an important element that can make your event great If you make the right choice. And based on your event theme you can find many to get your guests more engaged while attending your event.
For example, one of our clients was launching a Startup hub. The outdoors area/venue was not done yet, that made the event theme “Construction” the event decorations were the construction tools and equipment on site. The check-in was planting some seeds in a pot that the guest writes his name and instagram handle to make the space greener and made a lot of them pass by to check on their plant they seeded in that event.
3- Entertainment
This is a wide space of creativity and my favorite is “Drum circle” get some different drums, buckets, forks and glasses and someone smart to curate the tempo and let the rest fill in with clapping in two minutes everyone will be engaged, happy and ready for networking like never before. If the “Drum circle” doesn’t fit your theme or won’t work with your guests, one of your team is a musician that can perform solo or with his band and he will be more than happy to do so. No musicians in the team ask one or more of them to put a suitable and nice playlist. If you have no team member(s) to do so, there is something wrong with your hiring policy.
This is not everything but it’s just a way to think and since you are still reading and made it to this point, that means you actually care about this topic , we are working on “Events Done_,_” I would advise you to register here to get it once we finish it.
See you in the next article.
